Making your own custom alphas in zBrush can really speed up your workflow. These can be used for anything from buttons in clothing to latches and other hard surface details in mechanical models, or bullet holes, for example. Rock surface details can also be created by using these. The possibilities are limitless. ZBrush 4R8 will also include vector displacement maps which will have huge potential.
